Free Content Gap Finder

Enter your website and one competitor. You get the topics they have pages on that your site doesn’t cover yet, the ones you only partly cover, and your closest page for each. Free, no signup.

What a content gap is

A content gap is a subject your competitor has written a page about and you haven’t. If they rank for those topics and you have nothing on them, there is nothing of yours for a search engine or an AI answer to show. Each gap is a page you could write, and the list tells you which ones sit closest to what your competitor is really about.

How to read the results

  • Missing topics have no page on your site that covers them. Pages on the same subject are grouped, so a topic with several competitor pages is one they invest in.
  • Partly covered topics have a related page on your site, but not one on that exact subject. Expand the page you have or give the topic a page of its own.
  • Covered topics already have a matching page on your site, shown next to theirs.
  • Topics far from the competitor’s main subject, such as events, giveaways or sign-up pages, are folded away at the bottom of the missing list.

Topics are matched by meaning, not by keywords, so “cheap flights to Rome” and “budget airfare to Italy’s capital” count as the same subject even though they share no words.

Limits worth knowing

The tool compares the pages each site lists for search engines (its sitemap), or the links on its homepage when it has no sitemap. It compares up to 100 of the competitor’s topic pages, spread across the sections of their site, against up to 1,650 of your own pages. Legal, contact, account, tag and listing pages are skipped. When a page can’t be opened, its topic is read from its address, and those pages are marked. A site that blocks automated visits, or keeps its blog on another subdomain, will show fewer pages.

To find the questions one page doesn’t answer yet, use the Question Gap Finder. For the sites that link to your competitors but not to you, use the Link Gap Tool.

Frequently asked questions

Is the content gap tool free?

Yes. Compare your site with a competitor free, with no signup, and download the results as a CSV.

What is a content gap analysis?

A comparison of the topics a competitor covers with the topics you cover. The gaps are subjects they have pages on and you don’t, which makes them a ready list of pages to write.

Do the two sites need to use the same keywords?

No. Pages are matched by what they are about, so a page on the same subject counts as covered even when the wording is different.

How many pages does it compare?

Up to 100 of the competitor’s topic pages, against up to 1,650 of your own pages. Run it again later to see how your coverage has changed.

Can I compare several competitors?

One at a time. Run the tool once for each competitor and compare the lists.
